Piel y diabetes mellitus

Resumen

La diabetes mellitus es una enfermedad endocrinológica
común, y sus manifestaciones cutáneas son frecuentemente
vistas en la práctica dermatológica. En
ocasiones la manifestación más prominente e inicial del
paciente está relacionada con alteraciones en piel y el
dermatólogo sería el médico consultante. En este artículo
se revisa el espectro de signos y síntomas dermatológicos
de la diabetes mellitus, con especial énfasis en aquellas
manifestaciones recientemente discutidas en la literatura.

SUMMARY
Diabetes mellitus is a common endocrinologic disease,
and the cutaneous manifestations of it are frecuently
encountered by the practicing dermatologist. In some
instances the initial and most prominent complaints of the
patient are related to alterations in the skin, and thus the
dermatologist will at times be the physician consulted. This
article reviews the spectrum of dermatologic signs and
symptoms of diabetes mellitus, with special emphasis on
those manifestations newly discussed in the literature.
