COMPARACION DEL TRATAMIENTO GLUCANTIME Y/O INMUNOTERAPIA EN DISTINTOS GRUPOS DE EDADES CON LEISHMANIASIS TEGUMENTARIA AMERICANA

Resumen

la Leishmaniasis es una enfermedad causado por parásitos del género leishmania, de carácter endémico en Venezuela.
En este trabajo se analizan 215 casos en un estudio retrospectivo (1982-1995) de pacientes que asistieron a la consulta en el Instituto de Biomedicina, desde lactantes menores hasta ancianos. Los resultados se comparan de acuerdo a la evolución del paciente tratado con inmunoterapia y/o Glucantime, por grupo de edad, sexo, formas clínicas y dosis administradas.
De la muestra total el 51 % corresponde al sexo femenino y
49% al sexo masculino, de éstos el 42% pertenecen al grupo de adultos (22-59 años), siguiéndole en frecuencia el grupo de niños con un 39%. Predominan los casos procedentes de lo zona Central de Venezuela en un 87% del total de la muestra.
El tiempo promedio de curación de los pacientes tratados con
Inmunoterapia fue de 5.3 meses, mientras que con Glucantime fue de 2.5 meses, y en la terapia combinada fue de 9.1 meses.
El tiempo de curación con Glucantime fue menor, no obstante la Inmunoterapia constituye el medicamento de elección por sus múltiples ventajas.

Leismaniasis is a disease produced by parasites from the genus leishmania, which is endemic in Venezuela
In chis paper we analyze 215 cases in a retrospective study
(1982-1995) oí patients who attended the outpatient clinic at the Institute oí Biomedicine, from infants to aged persons.
The results are compored according to the patient's evolution
regarding whether he/she been treated with Immunotherapy
and/or Glucantime®, per age group, sex, clinical form and doses administered.
From the total somple, 51 % corresponded to females and 49% to males; oí these 42% are adults (22-59 years), followed by 39% children. Coses from the Central Area oí Venezuela predominate, corresponding to 87% oí the somple studied. Mean time until cure oí patients treated with immunotherapy 5.3 month, while with Glucantime® it was 2.5 months and with combined therapy 9.1 months.
Time until cure was shorter with Glucantime®, nevertheless, Immunotherapy is the treatment oí choice due to its multiple advantages.
