Resumen

Caso presentado en la reunión ordinaria mensual de La Sociedad
Venezolana de Dermatología en la Cruz Roja Venezolana, mes de enero de
1969.

SUMMARY
A patient 37 years old, white, salesman, with genital ulceration due
to Dermatobia hominis infestation, is presented.
The patient in the two months before consultation have been treated
with antibiotics without correct diagnosis. When the author examined the
lesion, it was a hard nodule with a round ulceration in the center.
With the history of several antibiotics treatments, negative
serological test for syphilis, clear aspect of the ulceration base and no
lymphatic nodules enlargement, exploration with the catheter was made, a
hard foreign body was found. Next day, other applications near the ulcer led
to the emergence of the parasite, classified as a larvae of Dermatobia
hominis.
In the comments, the author give an explanation for the infestation
in this unusual location, on a patient with normal higienic habits: one month
before the onset of sintomatology, the patient traveling by car had diariliva
and he made several defecations in the forest.
Dermatobia hominis infestation never occur directly: these flies lay
their eggs en hematophagous insects that carry the eggs toward the vertebrate
host; due to the fact that D. hominis only fed with sugared vegetable juices,
these flies don't have contact with vertebrate mammals.
